We all know how exciting going on holiday is, but leaving your pooch behind can be tough. It can be hard to relax when you are worried about how your dog is getting on.

We’d love to be able to always take our furry friends along, but sometimes we know this isn't possible. This can be due to anxious pups or hotels not allowing dogs.

Here are some helpful tips to prepare for your vacation.

  1. Choosing a carer

Moving your pooch around can be unsettling for them. This is why vets agree that pets are happier at home when owners travel.  A trusted in-home sitter will allow your pets to stay in familiar surroundings and maintain their usual routine, so you can avoid the stresses and costs of kennels and boarding. For this, we would recommend Trusted Housesitters, who have thousands of in-home pet sitters around the world.

  1. What to prepare before the holiday

To reduce separation anxiety, be sure to let the sitter know your pooches daily routine. By doing this, your pooch can stay happy at home with a new human friend who helps them maintain their much-loved routine.

  1. Don't prolong the goodbye

We all know how easily dogs can sense our moods - if we’re anxious and stressed about something, they will probably be feeling the same!

  1. Pooch & Mutt Calm and Relaxed Treats

These Calming Meaty Treats by Pooch and Mutt are a natural, ethical, gluten-free treat with added Chamomile and L-tryptophan to help keep your dog calm and relaxed.

These treats are perfect for separation anxiety.

  1. Pooch & Mutt Calm and Relaxed Food

'Calm & Relaxed’ is a vet recommended, premium, grain-free, complete dried dog food for dogs that tend to be anxious or excitable. The food is packed with active ingredients, including 45% lean, L-tryptophan rich turkey, sweet potato and b-vitamins as a digestion-aiding fibre, chamomile – the traditional relaxing aid, brewer’s yeast, and probiotics and prebiotics to help aid digestion, which can be a cause of stress.
